Self Defence Training of Girls with Visual Impaired at XISA,Raipur

Introduction: Self-defence is defined as “preparation to minimize the possibility of assault, it is training to learn and use a small group of technical simple effective physical actions, if no other alternative is available. Learning self-defence is primarily the process of learning how to avoid becoming a victim particular people with disable especially visual impaired girls. Advocates of self-defence for women believe that the development of particular physical and mental skills will strengthen women‟s physical capacities.
Brief Note of Program: The program was conducted at Xavier Institute of Social Action, SansadMarg,Raipur through implementing partner “Grihini” . The training session was duration of 7 days indoor self-defence training. It was starts with registration of 23 visual impaired girls‟ participants from 5 blocks under the program area Chhattisgarh Social Inclusion, supported by Sightsavers, Bhopal with joint collaboration of State Commission for women, Department of Social welfare, Chhattisgarh and Xavier Institute of Social Action, Raipur
Objectives:
* To aware and learn physical self-defence strategies alongside other components, addressing gender issues, peer pressure, social norms and other risk factors.
* To promote better understanding of stranger safety, help-seeking, and maintaining calmness and confidence in stressful situations.
* To make them aware about personal safety and empower for self-esteem and dignity.
* To learn various techniques of personal safety.
Inaugural Function:
Grihini Organisation has conducted 7days self-defence training with the theme of „Sashakta Netra‟ for visually impaired 23 girls targeted out of 30 participants. The event was inaugurated on the “World Disabled Day 2016”. The training programme duration from 7th December 16 to 13th December 2016,
Inaugurating the training programme, Mrs. Harsita Pandey, President of commissioner of women, Chhattisgarhi said that, this type of laudable initiative was held first time in Chhattisgarh. Especially to those who are mostly vulnerable in society as being visually impaired.She also emphasised and“assured the participated girls to feel safety through empower through self-defence with moral and physic “She further said “The state Govt. going to take the initiative to safeguard all the women in the state and Government always support to the vulnerable section of the society “.
The objectives of the programme were spelt out by Mrs.Rupa Srivastava, Director of Grihini,Hirmi.She highlighted that “Through the confidence the visual impaired girls will have to empower and ability to defend self and protect other VI girls, those who know the challenges of the VI girls and their status in this society”. She also present the views of people with disable in 5 blocks and their multiple challenges. The ability to physically defend one self and feel more empowered in life make the fearless and positive attitude with self-reliant move towards to face the challenge.
Mr.Amarjit Singh Chabada, Member of State Youth Commision,Chattisgarh gave a brief about different aspect of disability. He said that “This is a noble initiative, has taken by Grihini organisation to empower the VI girls for selfdefence and greatfull to “Grihini” for this venture and ask for scale up the program from block to district and state.
Briefing the key note address, Fr.VinodTopo, Director of Xavier Institute of Social Action, Raipur said that having the opportunity to see the VI girls in one platform, how are going to take training to make themselves as Master Trainer for aware and empower the other VI girls of their area. Request to all participants for disseminate of awareness of self-protection. He emphasised that it is important that women should come forward to equip skills for protecting oneself.
With the speech “Visually challenged girls have their own unique multiple problems “. Ms. Harsha Sahu,the key trainer explaining the multiple challenges of visual impaired girls. She also said, being a trainer, it was a challenge to train the VIgirls for teach the unique technics of selfdefence. She has the first time going to impart training the VI girls and it would be a learning session.
Apart from the VI girls, around 30 persons were present during the inauguration programme including Grihini staffs with other dignitaries and press reporters.
Valedictory Speech of Inaugural Ceremony:
The Inaugural programme ended with vote of thanks by Mr. Ishwar Chhata, The Orthopaedic disabled Block Coordinator of Tilda (Scale-up Block).
We thanks to Xavier Institute of Social Action, Raipur extend their support by providing of food and accommodation with other facilities to 23 VI girls with their care takers for 7days from 7th December 2016 to 13th December 2016 at XISAVenue, Raipur.
